*Medical Imaging
The cost of a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) is made up of two parts.
-
The speech pathologist fee listed above, which covers conducting the assessment, the detailed analysis of your images, and a written report sent to the health professionals involved in your care.
-
The medical imaging fee, which is charged separately by Lumus Imaging at Holmesglen Private Hospital. This payment is made directly to Lumus Imaging on the day of your appointment. Most patients pay about $346.75 for medical imaging, with a rebate of $87.75. Pension or Health Care Card holders pay about $206.75 for medical imaging, with the same rebate. While this is an approximate estimate of the cost (as at Sep 2025), please contact Lumus Imaging directly for fee details or concession eligibility.

Medicare - Chronic Disease Management Plan with GP
Speak to your GP about seeking speech pathology services - you may eligible to obtain a Chronic Disease Management Plan prior to attending for your initial appointment - more info here.
Once payment is received for your appointment, we can submit your claim so your Medicare rebate can be refunded into your nominated bank account - please ensure your bank details are up to date with Medicare.
It is not possible to claim a Medicare rebate and Private Health Insurance for the same service.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Swallow Science Melbourne is not NDIS registered. An invoice can be generated for self-managed and plan managed packages. Please note, it is unlikely that your plan will fund the cost of diagnostic imaging we undertake (VFSS/FEES) - NDIA have stated that the health system is responsible for any tests to diagnose dysphagia.

Private Health Insurance
We are pleased to provide invoices to assist your Private Health Insurance claims - we do not process these claims. Your private health fund extras cover may cover some (or all) of your speech pathology fees. Please contact your private health fund to enquire about your coverage for the following items:
Item 310 - Initial individual consultation/assessment.
Item 340 - Subsequent individual consultation/assessment/treatment.
Item 350 - Subsequent individual extended consultation/assessment/treatment.
